WHO WAS

AMPARO PACHECO

Amparo Pacheco was my grandmother. Born in a small Spanish town called La Solana in Ciudad Real, in 1924. From childhood she always liked acting and at barely 16 she left her village and went to Madrid pursuing her dream. She was apprentice at the grand Theatre Maria Guerrero, from there on she never stopped playing roles in the Theatre.

She joined, with her husband Manuel Salamanca, a travelling theatre company, “Benavente, theatre company” and travelled throught Spain for many years. Her son, Manolo Cal, my father, was practically born on stage; soon he would become the youngest actor of the Theatre Company, playing all children roles.

Difficult times, but happy also. When my grandfather became ill, then passed, my grandmother settled in Madrid, believing she would probably never act again. But then, at age 83, she did her first casting for television and jumped to the small screen, becoming a usual in series in Spanish television, like “Aquí no hay quien viva”, “La que se avecina”, “Manolo & Benito Corporation”, “A tortas con la vida”, etc. Her last appearances in TVE1, long running series “Cuéntame Como Pasó” playing the unforgettable newspaper stand owner, Sagrario. Amparo, appeared in the film “Pacto de Brujas” from director Javier Elorrieta, and the documentary "Cómicos" nominated to a  Goya, amongst others.

Her last appearance was starring in the shortfilm “The day my grandma met Bruce Willis”, written and directed by me, her granddaughter.

Unfortunately she was unable to see it finished, passing April 27th, 2017.
At age 92, Amparo Pacheco left this world, but she will never be forgotten, I personally know she is here with me.

This short video rememorizes her life and some of the fun moments she shared with us all.
